Form of a photograph

Something I’ve heard numerous times in my young art career is that art is up for interpretation. No matter the specific motif behind a piece (if there is one) the viewer will tend to perceive what they have connections to, believe in, knowledge about, etc. This chapter, Reading Photographs: Decisions in and Beyond The Frame goes in depth with explaining a photograph thoroughly through several questions. This process is presented to emphasize as stated that, “asking questions reveals that the process of making meaning rests on the associations and knowledge viewers are able to bring to any viewing”. Thinking more about this fact I wanted to portray a setting that would bring upon many different interpretations to a large audience. Since we as a country and a large audience have been going through a time of heightened polarization and division I decided to incorporate the symbol of our flag with different settings that can bring about different relative emotions.
